I've just had a newsletter from The Book Zone. It seems to be concentrated on the UK (sorry!) but it contains a great deal of publishing news which could be of use to aspiring authors. They are billed as the 'inside track for book lovers'. Here are two snippets to give you some idea what they're about:
New World Record in reading!
Author David Mitchell and his publisher Hodder are hoping to achieve an official Guinness World Record for the greatest number of people reading a book simultaneously on Saturday 2nd June, when copies of Black Swan Green will be given away in city centres across Britain. More than 80 library authorities have also joined the scheme.
Books on your mobile phone?
Mobile phone users in Sweden will soon be able to access more than 100 HarperCollins English language audiobooks, streamed to the phone without the need to download via a computer. And content from the Rough Guide travel books on hundreds of European cities, with mapping supplied by Via Michelin, is to be made available pre-loaded on Motorola mobile phones sold throughout Europe.
