That's great, Matt!  I think I'll  read your story tonight while I sit by the door waiting for trick-or-treaters.  Between that and the vampire haiku flash contest entries I should be in the proper spooky mood  :D

Good man.  I , having played the 'old man card' and gone to bed, now have some catching up to do.
My website is currently having a holiday, but will return like the $6,000,000 man.  Bigger, stronger, etc.

In the meantime, why not take pity on a starving author and visit my book sales page at http://stores.lulu.com/gyppo1

I have written 3,000 words this morning.

That's impressive. If you can keep it up you'll finish Nano early.  ;)

I'm closer to 4,000 now. One novel chapter, half of a short story and three pieces of flash fiction.

I think next year I'll try and join in and also write flash stories instead of a novel. Only problem is November is exam month
at school, so I'm up to my ears in marking for at least a week or two.

You could always try earning enough from your writing to quit teaching.

You could always try earning enough from your writing to quit teaching.

:D Apparently the average professional author earns about £10,000 a year. Not exactly a teacher's salary. The thing with short stories is you're never going to make enough money at them to earn a living (unless you can get published in Glimmertrain or The New Yorker every week, which isn't going to happen). But writing a novel is so time consuming, and at the end of the day the odds are it'll never make you any money or even get published anyway. But still we try!

But I'm lucky, I live in a very poor African country. So when I sell a story, I get about 7 to 8 times more than you guys.
So I only have to be 1/8th as successful to make enough money to write full time. Man, I wish it was that easy.  :D
