My ears are burning !  Don't forget that none of this would have been possible had it not been for Richard and his willingness to help. Mind you, he does always say that he would not do this for all his authors, and if they were all like me then he would not be a lot happier and a lot richer ... It will be interesting to see my sales figures for August though when they go online in a couple of weeks time.

In the meantime, have just rung the local radio station, BBC Southern Counties and they have asked me to send them a copy of the book for consideration. There is a big conference in Glastonbury in November, which I am trying to get tickets for and while I am there might try and get on Glastonbury radio too. Will ring the local paper in a minute as well and see what they have to say. They already know me, since I edit the Boxhill News. Back later ....

Looks like I might be in Jerry's newsletter again this week, since I have just had another email from him. The list of stores that have ordered has now reached the grand old number of 21 - 17 Waterstones and 4 Borders. Will be sending a copy to the local Radio station today as well - BBC Southern Counties. They do feature local authors on some of their programmes, so fingers crossed. In the meantime, Paul is going to try the Daily Express Book Club and the Mail on Sunday and is also hoping to contact Barnes and Noble when his contact is back from holiday. The book is only on sale or return in the UK though, not North America. He has also given the name and number for his contact at IPC Magazines, who publish womens weekly's since they are often looking for 'real life success stories' etc, and may be interested. Will have to pluck up the courage to give her a call then later on today.

On Friday I was told that the 30 books that Gardners had initially ordered did not arrive, since they sent the order to the wrong place. This would not normally have been very good news, since the stores have ordered would have been waiting for their orders to arrive and wondering what was going on! However, in my case it has turned out to be excellent news, since they have orders far exceeding that in number already, and have out another order in this time for 80 copies !! I have sent a press release round then to all on my mailing list and as many of those free press release sites I can find as well as the Publishing News forum !

Almost forgot to mention as well that my copy of The Self Publishing Magazine arrived yesterday (I am featured  as self published success story in there), and it looks very good !

I have had a really strange day today actually, and been feeling really out of sorts and very frustrated with it all. It just seems that I spend all my time emailing and ringing these stores and they keep telling me they have not received my emails, and asking me to resend them. Then I ring tham again a few days later and they say exactly the same thing - didn't get it, can I send it again, and so it goes on ! In desperation I spoke to Paul, who in turn phoned Waterstones Head Office, all they could suggest is that it might be my attachments - information sheet and so on.

So, it was back to the drawing board. I have rearranged my emails so that they look more like a newsletter, and included the Gardners info in the text. So that removed the need for at least one of those attachments. Then Coran suggested that I send them a link to my website to get the rest of the stuff - information sheet, cover proots, reviews etc. So a bit more tweeking was done there, and with the help of the Crawley store, who kept checking to see if the stuff I sent them was received it finally got through.

The good news then after all that is that following on from the press release I sent round yesterday, Paul rang Gardners again to see how many they had sold, and while they could not tell him that, they did tell him that they have placed a third order today for another 35 copies ! This now brings the total to 115 copies in just over 2 weeks ! Something then is definately happening that I am not aware of, and maybe some of the stores I have not yet spoken to have ordered after all .... I had a call back from another local stores today, East Grinstead, and it seems like they will be placing an order as well. Laurelie, who runs the mbs/religious section definately sounds interested, and so does her boss .... I am not sure then what to reach for first - the champagne or the baseball bat !

I now have my sales figures for the month of August and am delighted to report that I have sold a total of 108 copies. 2 of these were to the US and the rest in the UK. Out of these 25 were sold before the sor announcement was made and so could be to anywhere, although I suspect that  large chunk of them went to libraries. This is brillant news though as it means I have doubled my sales figures in just one month !

Ooh, I love this bit  :)

I just made the semi-finals of the UK Songwriting Competition with my song 'Man Behind The Smile'... Over 5,000 people entered and my song was in the top 23% - not bad for a warbler from the Black Country (UK) eh?

I've been writing, recording and performing my own songs for over 15 years and I'm in the process of recording my first solo project album. If you'd like to have a listen to my songs (including the semi-finalist!) then visit www.mirandadickinson.com

Well done to everyone who dares to follow their dream - however long it's taken!

Well done to you as well Miranda. We often forget that songs are a form of writing as well!

For my part, I am in 2 local papers this week - the Dorking Advertiser and the Dorking edition of the Surrey Advertiser. The first one only gives me a few lines and calls me Jane - grrr ! but the second one (Surrey Advertiser) is a 1/4 page complete with colour picture - it looks brilliant ! Copies have been distributed to local book sellers as those that stock my book have been mentioned ....
