The feedback then so far has been that most people do seem to prefer no 3 (the blue one). Numbers one and two are a close tie, with most of you if anything saying you prefer the cross, with the black fonts. Paul Ricks though, who of course was the instigator of all of this, said that the moment his wife and son saw them, they proclaimed very loudly that no 3 was most definately THE ONE, and Paul himself said that it says very loud and very clear, BUY ME.

When I first saw them my initital thoughts were the ankh (no 1) but with the black font of no 2, but that may be because of the attachment that I have to that original design, which don't forget, was in a way channelled (ie shown to me while I was meditating - it was there in my mind). It could be though that what was right then is not right now, and I need to let go of it completely now. I am coming round more and more to the idea of the third one - which on the surface is the complete opposite of everything that Paul said it should be - on the other hand though, it does have more universal appeal, and blue is a very soothing colour, almost kind of neutral. Plus as someone else pointed out to me in a private email, it is also the colour of the Virgin Mary, which will appeal to the Catholics, who more than anything need to read this book !

All in all though a very difficult choice. I am not in a hurry though, although I don't want to ponder on this for too long, as even more confusion may set in. I am going to give Richard a ring soon after 9am and talk it over with him and see what his thoughts are and then wait for a few more comments then. I am still making changes to the text so have some time to wait.

Thanks for the comments so far though and keep them coming !

June,

I agree #3 says "buy me" for all of the marketing reasons I mentioned to you. You might print the blue one and take it to the bookstore and do a side by side comparison. I think it will stand the test.

I remember you mentioning the origin of the first cover design on another forum (long ago). I'm no expert, but if that brought you to this point, then it might have served its purpose. Just a thought...

I think so. I also think that the idea of taking them to a book shop is a good one. Have printed them all out anyway, so that we could both see them. Won't have time to take them anywhere now until Friday though, since the fridge is half empty and I have a meeting this afternoon re Boxhill News. Then tomorrow I am working all day for the National Trust. Will ring Richard at 9am and see what he says. It's 7.30am here now.

Let us know how the test goes for the colors and the symbols (including the people).  I have a busy week, but if I get the chance, I'll run by the US bookstore and...

Hmmm, send Jerry an email with a link to the page on your website and see what he says. He knows a lot more about American book sales than I do. Just a thought...

The blue one does seem to be the right one now that I have slept on it. The statue smacks of a certain reality. The blue does represent the Virgin Mother, but for me, it reminds me of water, which has direct ties to your work. Shooting for a Catholic audience - even subliminally - is a good move.

Is there a way to include your original design within your work? Like in the back ground of your title page? Or shrink it for the top of your title page? It seems a shame to let it fall by the wayside. I really do love the original design. ACK! I am just a sentimental old fool. heehee! :)

Paramour you aren't a fool.

I like the original just fine too. What I found is that a design I made for my first website that was never used, is now being used in other places. For example as the mast for my newsletter. http://nadinelamanbooks.com/newsletter.html So, it is quite possible it will be recycled into some other use.

June keep that file somewhere...for later.

Will do, in fact since Clifford has sent me PDF's of all the covers anyway, if I want to I can always change it for a third time ! I do not plan on doing this though for obvious reasons. I sent that email to Jerry anyway, and he says that both 1 (the ankh) and 3 are very striking, but he would like to see the statues on no 3 with the orange background, just to compare.

Having totted up teh votes so far, it looks like number one has three, number two has two votes and number three is far and away the most popular with eight votes. It is looking then more and more like number three. Didn't manage to get hold of Richard yesterday, since I had loads to do for Boxhill News (it goes to print again soon), but it almost 9am here, so will give him a ring now, since he is the publisher and his opinion is important too ! Will tell you all what he said later on.

June,

It is good to hear what Jerry said. He has 25 years working in NY as VP of sales for a big publisher, so he ought to have some idea ~ right? Nice that he took the time...

I just have to say for the record, one more time, what a nice place MWC is. You know, June, you would have never had this kind of help where we came from. And, thank you for letting us be a part of the process.

Well, after much consideration, I have decided to go for cover no. 3 (the blue one), since the overwhelming majority voted for this one, including both Richard (my editor) and Paul (my publicist), As Nadine also pointed out, blue is the colour traditionally associated with the Virgin Mary (and Archangel Michael, this is me, not Nadine), so this help to subconsciously pull in more of the religious people - who let's face it, are the one who most NEED to read this stuff !

To begin with I was wavering between this one and number one (the ankh), since the first one was so visually stunning, and close to the original concept which I envisoned all those months ago. Sometimes though you do need a complete change, and what was right then may not be right now. The original cover served its purpose by getting the book out there, but it now needs to reach (and I am now ready for it) to reach a much wider audience, and I think that this cover is the best one one to do that. Richard and Paul are after all the experts, and they know what sells, and gets the message out there, so I have to pay heed to that. I might add that you cannot really see all the detail on those PDF's and there is much in the background that is not visible. The words for example that Clifford has scrolling across the cover, and also some sacred geometry.

In numerological terms, I am a number three, as is Mary Magdalene, while 33 is the number of  Archangel Michael (both Mary and Michael oversaw much of the writing process.) The words Authors OnLine (the name of my publisher) also add to to 33, so the more I see and think about it, the third cover is the right one. It gives the book a more professional and scholarly feel, which if I want it to sell, is the image that I need to project.

Thank you for all your input though, it really is appreciated, and I will let you all know the minute it goes to print. The text will be delivered by the end of next week, so I would imagine it will go to print sometime during the first week of May. Don't forget I also have plenty of those original covers left as well, at reduced price !
