I have added your guidelines for poetry writers to my favourites menu, even though I dont write poetry.

Why?  So much of it can also be applied to prose that I want to be able to access and refer to it easily.  I remember, at a writing group meeting, talking about clichs and over familiar phrases generally.  Next day I thought Id give an article Id written one last look through before putting it in the envelope.

One sentence jumped out at me:  A whole new world opened up.  I thought Id revised it enough times, but Id missed that.  If I hadnt been talking about hackneyed phrases the day before Id probably have missed it again.  I got rid of it, reprinted the article and sent it off.  It was published.

Thats why its so helpful to have guidelines like yours to refer to when revising.  Thanks for that.

Umm, wow. This is great advice, and I like the way it's presented, too. Very easy to traverse.

The "List of cliches" no longer works, the wikipedia article was deleted.

Thanks - I've found an alternate list and corrected that :)

Pity, i would have found it very interesting, as most of what i write i cannot distinquish
between poetry and prose. perhaps you could post your article again. :'(

Still navigating my way around the site - just found this sticky (took a while) and I agree with all the other members' positive comments. Great that there is a forum for [aspiring] poetry writers even if as a newbie you post your work in the wrong category...should have gone to the gallery - sounds like a line from an ad for an optician! :D
