Approach With Caution ;)
« on: August 25, 2021, 04:16:26 AM »
Hey there. Iím a big poetry fan and love experimenting with different types. Itís amazing how something can take so long to formulate but so short a time to read. Itís worth it though. I also beta read (for free) and proofread (price flexible.) Iím looking forward to being here :) (my subject is a tease by the way. I donít bite)

To be fair, poems are typically read multiple times and the reader often reflects on the poem. But in general, the amount of time spent producing something will generally vastly exceed the amount of time spent consuming it.

I average 800-1500 words-per-hour, so (for the sake of simplicity) let's say 1k words is one hour. A 90k word novel will therefore take 90 hours on the first draft. Then there's more time spent proofing/revisng, then trading with a critique partner (if you go that route, which I do right now), doing a round of revisions,  finding beta readers and evaluating their comments, and revising again... and then the even harder stuff starts. However, even if you only look at the drafting time, that's 90 hours when a reader might just take 10 hours to read it (and a fast reader could be done in 3-4 hours)
