Dealing with WW1 army records if a fictional context

(1/1)

Hi Everyone

I am currently working on a novel and one area deals with two characters researching the WWI army records of their relatives who died in the war. Can anyone give any advice on whether it would be better to use real WW1 records, or create a generic war record linked to the character's family or name? The reason for this inquiry is very simple; I have been to some of the WW1 Cemeteries, and have read much about the appalling conditions that many endured, so I would like to get the right balance within the novel so as to honor the sacrifice they made
