Topical - Please can I have my Winter's back
« on: December 25, 2006, 03:44:12 AM »
Something I first wrote back in the year 2000 whilst having to work on Christmas Day in the Middle East. Today 25/12/06 I'm working again so thought I would share this.

PLEASE CAN I HAVE MY WINTERS BACK

Thanks for the comments.

Big T, I love this.  The emotion expressed and the yearning for times gone by.
But I especial liked this last stanza:

So I miss my winters and what they mean,
Hot mince pies and melting cream,
That cup of broth steaming away
Was always there when we finished our play,
So please can I have my winters back,
Return to my life something I lack,
Itís all well and good being here in the sun,
But believe you and me, winterís more fun.

But for me I would have to change, melted cream, I'm not familiar with and wonder what I'm missing, cup of broth to bowl of stew.  Otherwise, you could be telling the tale of my childhood.

As much as I love the sun, memories of winters filled with snow and ice have an allure that is not to be denied.

Thank you for the memories.

Alice,
Thanks for the comment.... I have changed it ... here ... tell me if this helps your 'memories'   :D

Hot mince pies and brandy cream,
That bowl of soup steaming away
Was always there when we finished our play,
So please can I have my winters back,
Return to my life something I lack,

Big T, I didn't mean you should change anything. I was just talking about how our memories differ.  I enjoyed the peek into your memories and was commenting on the differences.

But thank you for the effort to include me in your stroll down memory lane.

Just for my two cents, Big T -- and welcome back to the boards! -- I would say that I liked your originbal melting cream (on the hot mince pies) and broth -- but I would say mugs of broth!

Eleven years later, almost a year before my time here, yet I still miss you, Big T!
Hope you and your lovely bride are well, my friend.

Might I add, I'd love my Winters back, as well.

I would settle for getting my yard dry. Which it hasn't been in months and months.

I would get rid of both so.  Also think about changing that  to a  instead.  I never live in snow, but it paints a picture that lets me know what it's like.

I'm a native Minnesotan who endured 60 plus winters of snow; chipping ice off the car windows; chopping down the snow ridges left by snow plows overnight; snot freezing in my nose every time I inhaled; numb toes; 20 minute prep times before every venture outdoors; soggy mittens; shall I go on or does everyone get my drift (intended)? I moved to California---why would I ever want winters back?
