  • I've been writing ever since I realised I could.
We do not grow old.

There are nine doors leading off the passageway in my bungalow, and I use the one in the kitchen as a noticeboard for reminders.  On the others I tape up poems I'm fond of.  Mostly my own, but not entirely.  Sometimes it's an apt or amusing quote from the net with a picture.  I use the top hall of each door so my Grandaughter can't reach and draw on them.  (Her drawings and early writing go on the fridge and freezer.)

You can do this sort of thing when you live on your own.

Occasionally I take one down and replace it with another.  (I dare say a psychiatrist would have a field day with my choices.)

Recently I printed and stuck up one I wrote a few years ago when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer.  It's been dealt with, but at the time I felt the practice swish of The Reaper's Scythe, not for the first time, and felt very aware of my own mortality.

I wrote it for myself, but I think it applies to writers in general.

=====

We do not grow old

A large part of my reality
consists of dreams.
Sometimes my own, and
sometimes dreamt for others
who lack an easy way with words.

Dark dreams, bright dreams,
sometimes so complex and fragile
they fade in the dawn's light.
Whilst others are trapped,
pinned down on paper.

A large part of my reality
has been living my dreams,
bringing them off the page,
collecting the life-scars
to further fuel imagination.

"We do not grow old as those
without dreams grow old."

My website is currently having a holiday, but will return like the $6,000,000 man.  Bigger, stronger, etc.

In the meantime, why not take pity on a starving author and visit my book sales page at http://stores.lulu.com/gyppo1
