Question from a newbie
« on: November 21, 2018, 09:44:09 PM »
Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I was curious as to how active this board is? I see a lot of posts from the summer, but not too many recently. I really like what I see and would love to get a little more involved.

Thanks.

Hi landmersm, welcome to MWC.

MWC used to be a very active forum with lots of top notch writers offering free guidance to anyone dipping their toe in the pool. Unfortunately, it hit a sticky patch several months ago due to an invasion of spammers but that problem has now been addressed and we're trying to generate more interest again. It's good to welcome new members - the more the merrier.

Feel free to browse the boards to get some indication of how this site works. It will make the process easier for you if you read the sticky guidelines at the top of any boards you choose to post in.

You will get more feedback on your writing by doing the same for others (it's good to see you already offering your own feedback on here). And bear in mind, you won't be able to edit whatever you have posted until you have racked up 50 posts. The easiest way to reach that total is to participate in the Coffee Shop or Writing Games + Challenges.

Have fun, and if you have any questions, let me know. I'm here to help.

H3K

Greetings and, Welcome to the MWC.

Have fun. Great involved. Stick a toe in those stilled waters. :)

Thanks for the responses. Good to see a couple so quick.  (I do realize that it is, at least here in the US, a holiday, so the activity should be slow anyway.)

It's a good time for newbies now. As H3K says, there was a lot of solid talent and experience showcasing here but it could also appear clique-ish to outsiders - I've had similar newbie experiences on other poetry sites - but now it's a different playing field, where every newcomer is appreciated, and who, through participation, can help build a good writing home. We are open to ideas in this regard, including suggestions for questions to be included in a forthcoming member survey.
A busy and quick-witted forum is admirable and pleasant but such a hive is the outcome of individual participation.
