How to promote books?
« on: August 17, 2018, 10:41:39 AM »
Over the years, I have completed 10 books and am currently working on two more. After an extended period of querying book agents, I began self publishing. I also began searching for reviewers for my work. I have had some limited success getting reviews published on Amazon, etc. I am not on any social media websites. I am generally repealed by what I hear about sites like Facebook. People seem to share information that, in my opinion, is far beyond what they should. For example, I've seen people announce they are going on a vacation. This means their home is advertised as being vacant and an easy target for theft.

Anyway, I have been attempting to figure out how to promote my work. It was suggested that I create a website. After giving the idea some thought, I went ahead and build a site. It's nice to see that some people have visited the site, but I had know way of knowing how they found it or what they thought. I first added a place where people could send me an email with anything they cared to share. After a few months I got no response. Next, I offered to send a free e-book to anyone requesting a copy. This offer has been in effect for almost one month - with zero requests.

I would love to hear what other people have done to promote their work and how successful it has been.  Thanks in advance for your response.

P.S. My website is -

 My research turned this up:

Submit your site to a huge network of search engines.

Over 3.5 million people worldwide have used the Entireweb Free Search Engine Submission service to submit their sites to search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing and more.

Hi jt,

Thanks very much for the information. I've just gone to the sites and posted my website. Hope I get some responses. I adjusted my site to begin with an offer to send an ebook for free. Hopefully, I'll now get some requests.

I have read about an author that had his book free to read
on his blog, in blogpost parts that is. This way people
where able to get to know the characters in the book
and getting you interested and involved in the story, telling about
the story, your writing process, asking readers what they
like about the story and things like that and get them
interested in the story getting them
curious about 'What comes Next'... etc. etc.

While readers could read the entire book online for free,
this way he apparently did create his own market for his book
with some of the blog readers that would actually became
prepared to buy the actual e-book or print version,

because they knew that it is an interesting read,
and because a whole product as e-book or print version
(or possibly even and audio version or packages of
what ever format they would like) was more practical and
more easy to consume than just bits and pieces on a blog

You also might consider to make a great looking Book Cover for your e-book
and/or print version,  and a Photo-slide Show 'Book Trailer Video'
you can put on Youtube. (and embed on your blog etc. etc.)

I also did actually sell one of my own e-books by replying
to an email from somebody that wanted to sell something
to me, ending up selling something (my e-book)
to him instead :)

Hope this all might have given you some new
perspectives to consider?

Success promoting.
