They updated the forum and the spam filters here but I believe it seems to be worse, like the old days

There's Spam singles? People eating canned 'meat' are too busy to slice it themselves?  I find that a little bit  depressing...

There's too many people afraid of knives these days.  For these timid souls pre-sliced Spam would be a godsend.

Probably true.

I grew up with it, but I've never seen any of the exotic versions in the photo a few posts earlier.

Yes, and lard spread on toast before being sprinkled with salt.  Or bread and dripping.  Or real butter on bread sprinkled with brown sugar, folded to make a sandwich.  Or barley kernels (which some folks wouldn't even feed to their animals) with milk.

Plus Marmite, naturally.

We didn't even imagine that one day there's be 'lite' products which have as much resemblance to food as King Herod did to Child Welfare.

Marmite? Oh Gyp, you need to get a jar of Vegemite  ;D ;D

Oz has Camp pie which is similar and I do remember mum slicing and cooking it on the stove top till it was nice and crisp, it was a treat years back. Bread and dripping too but my fave was bread with cream and sugar, oh the memories  ;D ;D

I tried Vegemite and it didn't work for me.  Dad bought a jar home once,  actually I recall it as being in a tin. He got it from sailors in the Australian Navy.  Don't know what he traded for it, possibly a jar of Marmite as a 'cultural exchange'.

I think Mum 'used it up' by sneaking it into stews.
