Very First Publish Made Today
« on: May 26, 2017, 07:24:25 PM »
Hey folks and friends!

I published my very first short story through KDP today. I found it while digging through some of my older writing projects. It's not literary gold, but it's readable. Im trying to bring in some additional cash in between my day job and the novel I've been chiseling away at (a massive thank you goes out to all who've had a hand in that so far).

If you'd like to drop a dollar for this tortured artist, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!!

Good Luck DRP22 - I just wish I didn't have such a large TBR pile!
By the way, you might want to take a look at http://www.booklinker.net/ to create Amazon links that work across the globe to link readers to your book in their 'local' Amazon store.

Good luck, DRP. An important part of your self-pub effort is creating a positive first impression with a hook that compells the reader to look inside. And of course, the look inside must be equally interesting for a purchase to follow.

I looked at your blurb and found a few problems that could turn off a visitor. Here are my suggested edits.

A n anonymous [why anonymous? Better to give him a name so readers can empathize] homeowner finds a child's diary hidden below beneath his recently purchased home. Within its pages is a mystery and he discovers a horror that derails his entire life, as t. A mystery he must solve. The journal becomes both of a source of mind-numbing terror and grim obsession. Finding little help from authorities, he turns to you, the reader, for answers. Will he overcome his fear and solve the mystery?

It needs a bit more to hook me, but you get the idea. Use stronger verbs and avoid so many adverbs. And drop the adjectives. They distract rather than re-enforce the modified word.

Next stop, Look Inside. The problem here is your ebook is so short and your choice of front matter content leaves no room for the Zon to include the beginning if your work. Only 20% of the total book is placed in the Look Inside feature. Consider placing copyright paragraph at the end. Also, if you know html coding, you can add <a href="#start">Start</a at the point you want the book to open.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your post, it reminded me to
look more closely at how to get readers to take
a look inside my own little (non-fictional) e-report.

On my writing blog I created a link to a few Samples,
(with a slightly bigger font to stand out)
and in the Storefront itself there is a
6-pages free preview.

Do you also have yours in pfd format?
