Short Story Contest #40, Tool

In 1000 words or less, write a story that features a tool. That is a real tool, as opposed to an imaginary, metaphorical, supernatural, or illusory tool. A thing that occupies real physical space. For example, a hammer, gun, saw, musical instrument, oar, etc.
