writing scripts for games
« on: April 09, 2016, 07:07:57 PM »
My son suggested that I look into writing scripts for games. Sounded good so I looked into reference material. Do you know of a networking online for games script writers?

I have a little experience in this field. Some years ago I wrote the scripts for a couple of CD-ROM-based games, Cyberbabe and Cyberboyfriend (both a lot more innocent than they sound, incidentally). I have also written material for online games, e.g  The Legend of Doom Island.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is as much demand for freelances in this field nowadays. In my experience, as games have become more elaborate, the scriptwriting task has become more complex and is generally done in-house by a specialist team. If anyone knows otherwise, feel free to contradict me, of course  :)

But in any event I am not aware of any specialist forums for freelance games scriptwriters. Sorry.

Did you make any money? What do you think of writing reviews for them. I hear that can be profitable.

I was paid a set fee for these jobs. Not a fortune, but enough to make it worth my while. I did a lot of work for the company concerned for several years. Unfortunately they are no longer in business.

Never done any games reviewing, but I guess there might be paid opportunities to do this. I would try contacting magazines in the field and maybe sending them a sample review or two. Good luck!
