Hi Guys,
       Well, I've been thinking it's time I got more involved, I guess this is the place to do it, when I can find some of that elusive 'spare time'! Which brings me to a question; does punctuation go inside or outside quotes? (I did read this somewhere a couple of weeks ago, but I have the memory of a Goldfish at times...)

        I've just posted a write-up for yor perusal, hope you won't be too unkind  Meanwhile, I feel the pull of that good old English institution, the Pub, so I'll be off for now. See you all later.

Isn't your name something to do with Aragorn/Strider from some fantasy novel, the title of which evades me at the moment?

As for your question: punctuation goes inside quotes unless it is a quote within a quote when it can fall outside the quoted quote if need be. Here is a very poor example:

"I was reading Telcontar's post in The Coffee Shop and he said, 'hope you won't be too unkind...'."

I came across the name when I first read the said book about 30 years ago, and it stuck in my heed. But as far as I know, it's only ever mentioned once in the whole story. Glad I'm not the only sad git! 
Ta for the advice on punctuation, I'll probably be able to remember that.

I'm most definitely an old git, don't know about sad though, I'm feeling quite chipper and cheerful at the moment... but I have been known to have the odd curmudgeonly moment or two.

I'm guessing from your introduction on the welcome board that we are about the same age. Do you look back at Party Sevens and Watneys Red barrel with rose tinted spectacles? Do you long for the days of feather cut hairstyles, the three day week and power cuts? Or am I way off the mark here

   Thanks to a stint in the forces, the three day week never happened for me, nor the feather cut hair; though I did have shoulder length blonde hair around the time of Watney's red Barrel!

Fortunately, I only came across this brew on a holiday to the Norfolk Broads..a week of it was more than enough. Thankfully, a few years later one of my mates introduced me to draught Guinness...

And aye, I remember the power cuts..just at the time I was with my first girlfriend, very convenient they were!
