Good instincts

Sometimes, when I picked a place,
pulled over to camp, turned off the motor,
the silence would seem absolute.
I'd feel as if I was the first
to ever camp there.

But some sites are so natural,
so right, they call to you.
You feel that little corner,
that gentle fold in the land,
is welcoming you.

So I park my bike,
turn back a turf in the best place
to light a little fire and smile
when I find cold ashes
and burnt sticks tucked away.

In the morning, fed and watered,
I douse my fire, replace the turf,
and ride away.  Knowing one day,
someone else with good instincts,
will roll back the turf and smile.

My website is currently having a holiday, but will return like the $6,000,000 man.  Bigger, stronger, etc.

In the meantime, why not take pity on a starving author and visit my book sales page at

Good instincts, indeed.

I really like that, Gyppo. Sort of all part of life's circle.

Well brushed, Gyppo. Do I see John on a solo bike trip before he met Frances?  :o  The characters show up everywhere.

The imagery had a Steinbeck feel to it, for me. The sense of place painted with words and phrases like camp, fold of land and douse the fire reminded me Of Mice and Men.

I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.

Simply sketched, enjoyable to look at piece. Smooth tense transition post-S1 brings the memory alive. Good job.
