A Bee!
« on: December 02, 2014, 08:37:47 AM »

How can this bee be?
On a chill November morning
I did not expect to see
a bee.
But one just buzzed past me
albeit sort of listlesslee,
meanderingly heading west
on a surely pointless pollen quest.

Where should he now be,
this wayward bee?
in a warmer clime
for winter time?
or if they do not emigrate,
settling down to hibernate?
Or is his life the fleeting sort
whose summer span is sadly short?
Should he have fled?
Or should he be dead?

My ignorance is plain to see
I don’t know much about the bee.

But as he idly flew away
I did recall one thing they say -
that if the bees should cease to buzz
it’s curtains for the rest of us.
With numbers getting less and less
there’ll be a dreadful eco-mess.

Perhaps he thought he couldn’t win
and simply threw the towel in,
saw the doomed environment
and left in disillusionment.
Despairing of the world to come
he wanders like a washed up bum,
weaving down the leafy ways
nostalgic for the olden days,
And clearly he doesn’t do
whatever bees in Winter do,

So if, out walking, you should see
a lonely discontented bee,
he doesn’t need your charity
or tuppence for a cup of tea.
Just help his threatened colony
by planting something polleny.
You’ll help a bee to start anew
and maybe save the planet too

There, I’ve solved a crisis,
Ebola next, then ISIS.

Well done and the message is spot on. Hope people read and heed this. Stop with the pesticides and herbicides already!

Can't wait to see what you do with the next two.  ;)

The artist formerly known as Snige never ceases to amaze.  :)

Loved it.  Not sure if we offer feedback here or not, but I did notice one thing

And clearly he doesn’t do
whatever bees in Winter do,

This is the only couplet in the poem that didn't flow for me.  Difference in pronunciation maybe?

Brilliant. Funny. Accessible. Love it.
