Detective Agency ( need a name )
« on: October 17, 2014, 10:49:14 AM »
In my story there are 2 children, a boy and a girl. They were made honorary detectives by the village mayor after solving a mystery. The girl however is a witch but the boy isn't. The story is  for children 9-12.

The names I have come up with so far are The Honorary Detectives and the Cluesome Twosome.

Would very much like some more suggestions, please. I feel that the above names are a bit long and would like it shorter but just can't think of any. Also the boy is age 12 and a half while the girl is age 13.

I like "Cluesome Twosome."  ;)

There's a nice ring to the two words linked together.

(even if my spell check tells me there is no such word as cluesome.)   :o

I like Cluesome Twosome. Would their names help create a title?

Witch-Hazel and Alfie, the Cluseome Twosome.

If there are to be more than one story you could always use 'Witch-Hazel and Alfie' does this or does that.

My oldest son(15) said Cluesome Twosome sounds more like The Gruesome Twosome ( I think its a book ) and he said that they don't sound catchy enough. Is he right?

The Cluesome Twosome lends itself to other kids making up alternative names for them, as kids will.

Such as The Gruesome Twosome, or the Clueless Something.

Witch-Hazel  sounds okay, but Alfie needs a second name to make it work properly.  Can't immediately think of one though.

If there's already a gruesome twosome out there, drop that suggestion.

Douglas Adams used "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" for a character who used supernatural means to solve crimes - I don't know if you can use this idea? "Witch Hazel and Associate Holistic Detective Agency"? (This is assuming Hazel is the MC, if not you could swap it around). I don't know if you need to worry about having it short and snappy - some of the funniest organisation (or equipment) names in YA books are almost long sentences - which tend to get cut down to initials or acronyms.

Anyway, just a thought. Maybe you can come up with something more original if you mess around with it a bit more.

All good suggestions thank you. Still trying to find a suitable name. I suppose it will come one way or another. :)

Came up with some more:

Lighthouse Detective Agency ( Hazel lives in a lighthouse)

Magic Duo Incorporated

Cat's Eye Investigators ( Cat's Eye is a magic crystal )

Twilight Detective Agency

Eclipse Associates Ltd

Not sure if these all work for the target age group. Eclipse Associates just sounds too grown up for me. But I may just be way out of touch on that.

Get the feeling the word "eye" in the name could be good. Could have good magical, all-seeing, slightly scary, connotations. I vaguely remember a comic strip called "Kelly's Eye" from way back in my youth ... a magical stone or something I think.

Eagle Eye Spies ... a bit tenuous when they are not really spies though.
