    Paulette’s Groupies

A blonde weed parted the curtain
of searing summer nights in Williams Pub,
funny that way – her guitar and voice
splashed rock ‘n blues waves off walls
and window sills, and up rising nerve cells
of every guy in the joint, and pool tables
ran quiet as testosterone washed toward the stage
night after night until she was gone:
country Highway 101.

101 Ways With Vinegar

The book teased and beckoned me over
101 ways with vinegar on the cover
Bargain price of only 99 cents
So off I go armed with this bible
Got my stash of vinegar and an apple
Shame the dog didn't appreciate this event

I tackle and grapple him straight to the floor
Come here, dog don't you go out that door
You stink, got fleas and need a wash
So off I go armed with this bible
Got my stash of vinegar and an apple
Shame the dog didn't want to be posh.

The Eager Student

He learns his lessons well
reads books, looks at pictures
starts with the bees and the birds
cats and dogs, various other small  animals
pulls wings off, snaps spines, breaks legs
nails sparrows to perches
and with glee sees them starve
he knows how to make a cat go woof
with petrol and a match, he smiles
at the memories, now he is ready
to put theory into practice and move on
to the most dangerous of animal
that moves in the concrete jungle

he follows his prey for weeks
knows the habits, the ways
and discovers the means
to do what he needs
it’s dark when he pounces
and the fog muffles any sounds
as he loads the transit and drives off

he passes Murder 101 with distinction
and moves on to  Taxidermy for Beginners

Inspired Brian. I'll own up, mine was the vinegar one.   :-[ As you can tell I'm not a poet.

Dawn, I love that poem -- is it a thing for you good writers to preface everything with "I'm not a poet"?

Now I know you're having a laugh but thank you. :) Tom, poetry frightens me. I'm still one of these it has to rhyme kind of girls.

V I thought that yours was very clever. Loved the twist.
