Flash Fiction #82

It’s been a while since we had something ‘happy’ so I’d like entrants to compose a very short story with an uplifting scene showing elation at some achievement. Here’s an opportunity to show character through setting and dialogue with careful word choice.

Have fun.  ;D

Entries to me by PM before midday April 3rd 2014—no more than 500 words.

Deadline extended for another week  . . . come on, no excuses.

Midday BST Thursday 10th April 2014
::)

Thank you. :)

Oh no, I was going to make it a point of entering the next flash fiction contest but happy scenes aren't my strong point ;)

Tam, that's one of the neat things about the challenges. It gives you a tiny push and the change to try something outside your norm.

I've surprised myself at time with what I've come up with by doing exactly that.

Give it some though and reconsider. I would love to see what you can do with this challenge.  :D

They're not mine either . . . I'm hoping to learn from the entries. Sneaky bat, aren't I? ;D

That's exactly why challenges are good, a proper workout for the writing muscle machine - I shall see if I can find my happy hat, dust it off and see what I can do - I've got a few days left, I may need them! :)

Go on -- there are clues in the prompt for folk who wouldn't ordinarily do 'happy'. Catch the ball, get the girl, score the goal, find the treasure -- whatever. ;D

All of those are alien to me... *fumbles ball* *gets lost following treasure map*... perhaps my story should be about an alien... ;)

Oh, just one thing... I have been known to be somewhat sweary... I can't help it, the foul words naturally pour from my fingers like deconstructed carrot cake from a mouth after one wine too many... is that ok for challenges or do we have to keep it clean...? :)
