Geoff's Bookshelf of goodies
« on: January 10, 2014, 04:51:28 PM »
I’ve been invited to showcase my novels here on the bookshelf. A fine idea.

I know it’s not recommended but I’ve written in two separate genres: science fiction and thrillers. You could say the science fiction are also thrillers and when ARIA: Left Luggage went on its 5-day-free Kindle download in December it ranked #1 in the thriller section for at least an hour – haha.
ARIA stands for Alien Retrograde Infectious Amnesia. Once the idea of infectious amnesia inveigled into my head, I researched it and discovered no one had used it in fiction. It doesn’t exist in reality either, thank goodness, especially with no immunity but consider the ramifications if it did. Retrograde means people would lose their memory backwards. They’d forget newly acquired skills for their jobs, new homes, medication, and relationships. In ARIA people lose memory at the rate of a year’s worth per week. So five-year-old kids would forget how to write, then read, then talk, what’s safe to eat. They’d be the first to die. An age role-reversal. It’s not all a dystopic apocalypse though. There’s hope for small groups who isolated themselves. Humour too, like the zoo keeper who made love with his amnesiac wife, who forgot they’d divorced. Why did it happen? How can it be mitigated and what’s the future? For those who can cope with the trauma of the industrial and socio-economic meltdown, it makes sense to make notes to read when they wake up. What would be so important to you that you’d make sure you knew it in the morning?
Endorsed by Mike Resnick, Jon Courtenay Grimwood and the winner of the P&E Readers Poll for best science fiction novel of 2012, ARIA: Left Luggage is available in both paperback and ebook, as is its sequel ARIA: Returning Left Luggage on Amazon, other online bookstores and the publishers at http://www.ll-publications.com/leftluggage.html

Kindle Prime customers can already borrow it for free within three months from December 1st.
For US customers http://amzn.to/11rseH3
Also free to borrow for UK Amazon Prime here http://amzn.to/1gn3iHI
Also anyone who has a print copy of ARIA purchased from Amazon can buy the Kindle version for half-price through the Kindle Matchbook program.

While we are on Kindles – and this applies to those using the Kindle app on tablets, and Kindle for PC – my first novel, Escaping Reality, a humorous thriller is almost free – http://www.geoffnelder.com/ERinfo.htm for details of the plot and links to buy.
Also Hot AIR is at http://www.geoffnelder.com/hotair.htm It won silver and gold awards and is a thriller featuring a feisty redhead, set in the Mediterranean region.

Exit, Pursued by a Bee is a science fiction that defies all the stereotypes of the genre. Aliens don’t invade Earth, they were here before us and are leaving; they don’t shoot off at escape velocity but really slowly; they don’t notice the 7 billion humans who are being affected by time and earthquakes as they leave and ignore all known means of communication; the hero is a feisty heroine. It came second in the P&E Readers Poll for best science fiction. Published by Canada’s Double Dragon Publishing. See http://geoffnelder.com/exitbee.htm

Horror short in PennyShorts
« Reply #2 on: July 11, 2015, 05:13:40 PM »
One of my wife's colleagues ran into a container. Clarify Nelder. Okay, he was sailing to the Isle of Man and the container had fallen off a ship. To a writer of spooky stories this is a rich start to a horror story. What's in the container? Surely not people, yes but what kind of people... It's called Voyage of the Silents, published by Pennyshorts and only 50p

You might be interested to submit your own shorts to Pennyshorts as they accept a variety of genre.
