You should write a book
« on: August 15, 2013, 11:09:44 PM »
You've all heard it.

I have been taking week long backpacking trips every spring for 22 years .  Over the years, a few very good stories have emerged.  With self-publishing for Kindle so easy, I thought I would finally write these stories down.  A few of my friends have been encouraging but I thought I should get some unbiased feedback from people who also write.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Circle, we have much to offer. We’ve divided the subjects of interest into categories. (There are subheadings under each one.) However, before you go any further, please drop by this link below and give it a read.

It will familiarize you with how we do things; our forum etiquette, and limits.  Reading this page first will help. None of us wants to cause a meltdown to the servers or distress the other members.

Visit our Coffee Shop. Make some friends in the, ‘MWC Bar’ for instance. Ask some questions and jump right in. We do however ask that you help a few others before you post any of your own work. Look for a blue pushpin at the top of each page-list you open. Read that post.

Whether you are a reader, writer, or a poet, we have it all.  As implied in the name, ‘My Writer’s Circle’, we all learn from, and teach one another. Again, welcome aboard.

Nice to meet you.  I'll bet you do have some interesting backwoods stories to share.

Hey Norm, I've done a fair bit of backpacking myself mainly here in the UK in the mountains of Wales and the Lake District, Scotland, etc. Such experiences are helpful in writing stories with settings you've walked. Done a fair bit of cycling with tent, etc too. To be honest I make more money selling my experiences to Cycling World magazine than from royalties from my stories but hey ho.

Done a fair bit of cycling with tent That won't get you very far Geoff. You should try a bike, although saying that, a bike won't be any good for camping. heh heh. B

Haha, I can always rely you, Brian. :)
I'm being lazy for my next cycling trip - Chester to Cheltenham and back (going to a concert) but using B&B - oh, the luxury.

Norm, I'd like to welcome you to the site. I've enjoyed the adult responses to your story you've given, it shows us you're here to learn, (just like the rest of us) Welcome to MWC. I think you'll find what you're looking for here. Bri.

Welcome Norm. I haven't walked anywhere as big and spectacular as the Grand Canyon, but 3000ft Scafell can seem like 30000 feet when you're knackered. And you're right, coming down can be just as bad as going up!  :o
