Came this close yesterday.

Going about my errands yesterday I was doing the speed limit (40 mph/64 km) on a curvy country road, and all of a sudden, out of no where comes a car doing at least 90 and he blows past me on the wrong side of the road, on a blind curve and missed not only me, but the oncoming car, by what seemed inches.

It happened so fast I didn't have time to react except hit the brakes. Luckily no one was right behind me. If I hadn't slowed in that second I know he would have clipped me. And possibly head-on collided with the other car.

A few minutes later here comes a cop car with lights flashing, but no siren which was weird.

But probably the weirdest thing is that I am really bad about wearing my seat belt but for some reason yesterday I remembered to put it on when I left the house :o

I'm glad you're ok. And this is what I always keep saying. Things like this can happen to everyone. It's not something that "only happens to everyone else", like so many people seem to think.

Life is a lottery sometimes. If the speeding car had hit you someone would have said 'what were the odds of you being on that bend at that moment etc...' Fortunately for you fate was on your side this time. What a catastrophe that could have been.

But even at that speed I doubt a seat belt would have made any difference; you doing 40, the other driver doing 90, that's 130mph impact. Both cars would have been caved in to the back seats.

He came up behind me and passed me, so the other driver coming towards would have been the head-on and yes, at that speed it would have probably been fatal for somebody. We were all so close that had he hit or even clipped either of us we would have all crashed, it's just a 2 lane road.

the other guy and I are lucky he was a good driver. :-)

The only thing the seat belt does is keep you from being thrown from the car. That can be worse than the crash itself.

The cops were chasing him, so in this case, yes.  ;)

For sure. A friend from highschool was the only one in her family not wearing her seatbelt at the time the family car crashed... and the only one not to survive :(
