The Winter surprise
'I hope you don't mind but your present
Is running a little bit late.
You won't get it in time for Christmas -
I'm afraid you'll just have to wait'.
To be honest I was really happy
As I didn't have the spare time
To rearrange all of the living room
To make room for a chair made of pine
I inwardly had my suspicions
That a chair is what it would be
I was going to have to act shocked a bit
And pretend it was all news to me
The day arrived - I was requested
To help him by bringing my car
To collect my own present - well, what a cheek
I just hoped it would not be far
I thought I was getting a rocking chair
And wondered how it was to fit
In the back of my car with all us in there
'Oh well', I said, 'let's go for it!'
We pulled up outside and were beckoned in
And oh, what a sight to behold
"Come in, shut the door, it is winter!
And the puppies are all getting cold"
I could not shut all of the children up
And I was just sat there in shock.
How do you house a Jack Russell pup
Instead of a chair with a rock?
What an awkward position to be in,
How could I really say no
To the cute little Jack Russell puppies
Wriggling there on the floor?
We came away clutching our bundle
When a thought came into my head
The room that I'd made at home for my chair
Would now be a space for a bed
It would take a little adapting
But I was sure that we'd cope in the end
No chair to sit on, but happy
With our surprise, the four-legged friend.
