Franks Misadventures Part 2: Franks on Fire!!
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:02:19 PM »
A few days ago some of us started talking about how smoking tobacco was harmful. Gather around little children for I shall tell two tales..

Beware of Open Flame

2003

It was a blustery spring day, a wear your jacket day. I was out walking with friends when a craving for nicotine struck. I started flicking the lighter, trying to get a flame going, but the wind was blowing real strong. I decided to use my jacket as a wind breaker, covering the lighter. The next thing I knew the fumes of Axe body spray, which had been liberally applied 20 minutes before hand, suddenly ignited :o

WOOOSH!!

The fire, brief as it was, melted the polyester lining of my jacket..

The case of the smoldering glove
2005

It was February and it was really cold, and thus I was wearing thick construction gloves. I was working that weekend with my driver emptying out public recycling bins. As it was a friday,a payday, I stopped by the local smoke shop to purchase a cheap cigar. I lit it once I was safely in the confines of the heated cab. five minutes later this is what happened

Me: sniff sniff " somethings smells"

Driver: " like something is burning"

Me: " whatever it is, it smells real bad"

Driver Glances at me does a double take

"FRANK YOUR GLOVES ON FIRE!!!!!!

ME: "O SHIT!!!!! hahahaha

we stopped and I threw the smoldering glove in a snow bank. The glove Had been smoldering so long that the outer layer of the gloves 3rd finger was completely  burned, had he(my driver) not noticed I would have, when my finger got burned......

This Concludes Franks misadventures....

The moral of the second tale is 'Wearing Gloves Can Be Dangerous'.
My website is currently having a holiday, but will return like the $6,000,000 man.  Bigger, stronger, etc.

In the meantime, why not take pity on a starving author and visit my book sales page at http://stores.lulu.com/gyppo1

Hence why I never bothered wearing them, but when it hit -45 that day I had no choice. my fingers were frozen already, probably why I never felt my glove smoldering.

Well apparently smoking related accidents where a norm in my family :-\ My mum told of of several stories involving my dad :D

Exerpt from her e-mail:

Quote
Just thought of it now: you're keeping family tradition...

Dad and his fires caused by his "second hand smoking":
when the butt he threw out the truck window landed in one of the huge round bales of hay he was hauling; he soon realized smoke was coming from the bales and had to do an emergency stop trying to put the fire out (!). Then in the truck again: he started slapping his side so hard Celine and whoever was with him was wondering what was wrong with him: weird, but the pack of matches caught fire "IN HIS POCKET" while he was driving down the road !! LOL!!
