I decided to write on a different program than microsoft word so my computer is working again and i have a craving to write. Now i can't come up with a good short story idea so I thought i'd ask here. What are some ideas for a short story?

Write a story about a man named Bob Smith...
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most...

Ylrebmik,

Try this on for size -

"you are standing on a street corner and someone comes up to you and hands you a shopping bag."

I found this in a creative writing book, tried it, and four or five years later, a 97,000 page novel is sitting in the hands of a literary agent hoping to find a publisher.

You never know where it can go.

How about a story about an author who has a brilliant idea for a short story, and relies on Microsoft word to write it...?

   Hi Ylrebmik!  :)

I have two things that I like to do when I seem to be stumbling along.  The first is to listen to the Writer's Block cd that Nick Daws  promotes.  The second is one of my favourite web sites; http://writesparks.com.  There's a free idea generator there as well as being able to purchase a larger more advanced edition.  Hope these ideas help.  :)

Have a truly wonderful and Blessed day!  :)

You could also use a plot-generator, like this one, e.g.:
http://nine.frenchboys.net/fantasyplot.php
Or one of themany generator's on this site: http://www.seventhsanctum.com/index-writ.php

Personally I don't use them, they block my writer's mind, rathere than ingite some sparks, but who knows?
It might help you.
I do use some of their other generators quite regularly.
