Bringing it
« on: January 24, 2012, 02:06:26 PM »
Greetings, Fellow Writers!

My name is Seren Morgan. I have a degree in Imaginative Writing from Liverpool John Moores University in England. I have written an exciting  novel that is set in Costa Rica. I have not signed a publishing deal yet but it is under consideration. I am about to embark on a second - set in India...

I've recently started writing a blog. This forum is exactly what i have been looking for, particulary as i explore the online possibilities for us writers, especially in terms of finding readers, and indeed, other writers.. For fun and for support.

The workshop process was very much part of the Imaginative Writing degree, so I feel confident to offer feedback here. certainly I agree that this is a great way to develop critical skills that enable you to better edit your own work. I find it intellectually stimulating to talk about work-in-progress, which is very different to reviewing a completed piece. It is intimate and enlightening.

I expect I can pop in frequently - every day when I can. I think it is the sort of thing that rewards effort and consistency. Here starts the adventure. Hello everybody!

Welcome to the Circle, we have much to offer. We’ve divided the subjects of interest into categories. (There are subheadings under each one.) However, before you go any further, please drop by this link below and give it a read.

http://www.mywriterscircle.com/index.php?topic=7415.0

It will familiarize you with how we do things; our forum-educate, and limits.  Reading this page first will help. None of us wants to meltdown the servers or any of our other members.

Visit our Coffee Shop. Make some friends in the, ‘MWC Bar’ for instance. Ask some questions and jump right in. We do however ask that you help a few others before you post any of your own work. Look for a blue pushpin at the top of each page-list you open. Read that post.

Whether you are a reader, writer, or a poet, we have it all.  As implied in the name, ‘My Writer’s Circle’, we all learn from, and teach one another. Again, welcome aboard.

Hello and welcome Seren. I have never before heard the term "Imaginative Writing," but that may be because here in the US we have Creative Writing writing courses.  ;)

I look forward to seeing you around the boards.

Thank you for this welcome. i feel adorned with flowers like i stepped on a Hawaiian shore!
I think this forum will be so good for me, and i certainly hope to put that goodness back in.

The comment about 'Imaginative Writing' was interesting. Thank you, Alice.

The course is now entitled Creative Writing, to make it more easily findable when students hunt for a course online.
When I was there we had an incredible teacher, who founded the course, the late Dr Edmund Cusick. He very much worked with the imagination. we learned mediation and visualisation techniques; we kept dream diaries and invented fanatasy world with work that never even had to make it in to sentence form.
Creative writing, as it is taught, focuses largely on craft - which is great - but the work of the imagination is to be nutured. This particular teacher never once put a red line through anuthing i'd written.

I hope his techniques have nestled in me. I aim to be a supportive and nurturing contributer on here.
