Maybe someone can make sense of this for me:

I recently downloaded WP 3.3 into a sub-folder of my existing website folder (I want to run both for awhile.)

Many of the files on the website need to be used on the Blog (both .jpg images and .pdf files).

Rather than upload a complete duplicate set of files to the subfolder (and waste my available website space by duplicating files), I would like to just create a link from a word in the sub-folder back the existing file in the parent directory.

My problem is that I don't know how to specify what the file is (my Unix/Linux is rusty -- I'm not certain how to specify a path).

Can anyone help?

I've solved the problem.
All I need to do is copy the web address of the file I need to link to.
Then paste that address into the dialogue box that appears after I request a link on a highlighted word.

It was too easy.
