Interesting read. But almost all the advice I've ever read from writers and publishers alike is to try for an agent first, as most of the big publishing houses don't accept unsolicited manuscripts.

Yes, the problem with saying "get an offer" is -- how the heck do you get one when you're probably in the slush pile? The rest of the stuff looks helpful, though.
