How Effective are Tags on Your Pages?
« on: December 26, 2011, 02:59:22 PM »
I tried an experiment the other day.
I posted this blog:
http://www.funnyflashfiction.com/blog/add-funny-flash-fiction-to-titles-to-direct-traffic/
as a test to see if it influenced web traffic to my site.
Although I couldn't see any noticeable traffic, that post has risen to my second highest ranking on Goggle (when searching for "Funny Flash Fiction."

I wrote the blog tongue in cheek directly in response to an idea I read about in Steve Weber's wonderful book, "Plug This."

Anyway, if you are of a mind, try something similar with your blog and see if it changes your traffic any.

Yours,

Just a little bit of follow up to this story:

After writing the funny blog, traffic went up.
After writing about the increase in traffic, the traffic went up again.

Just to see if perverse irony has its own thread, I announced that I had hired a new employee named patches, and then linked the employee's name to a photo of my new kitten.

Traffic emphasis from Google went through the roof.
After writing that blog, I wrote about how Google must prefer satire, and guess what?

When I search for myself (funny flash fiction), I now occupy the top four search slots.
People searching for funny flash fiction are now finding me (I hope that's a good thing.)

yours,

... Jim
