My colleague David Robinson has just written an excellent guest post for my blog explaining how he uses free software to create his own video book trailers. If this is something that might interest you, you may want to check it out...

Great information, Nick. I may finally have a go at one myself after reading that. Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks, Andrew. Glad you liked David's article. Good luck if you decide to try creating a video trailer of your own.

I also thought about possibly creating an actual Book Trailer using somewhat similar techniques, to promote a tiny little ebook that I (pre) sell on my Blog(s), only currently I don't really feel like actually doing it now or have any specific approach or ideas for it, I wonder if possibly some sort of 'Screencast' video might be an idea for promoting it, combined with some of the techniques I used before for a slightly different type of (Promo) Video....,

I once made somesort of a 'Promo Video' (actually a Photo Slide Show) It was basically a bunch of Photo's I took during my 'Early Morning Jogging on the Beach'. (with somewhat weird selfmade background Music with bird sounds)

It was intended as a video to show some nice photo's of the Upcoming Sun, to help Inspire and Motivate people for Early Morning Jogging. (the Music I made myself wasn't specifically made for this video, it was just some 'Music Compose and Mix Experiment' I had been working on that I found on my harddisk, so it probably is better to buy specific suitable Music for a Video) For example I discoverd an interesting site for finding Royalty Free Music at: http://musicbakery.com/ On my - Home Business - Lifestyle Blog (that you can find via my -Writer's Lifestyle - Blog) at the 'Featured Posts' (scrolling down) you can see the Video (Photo Slide Show) I created and although the Music might be a little weird, I do think that at least the Photo's can Inspire for Early Morning Jogging :)

Well, Nick, having a little (and very rare) extra time on my hands due to the Christmas break, I finally went ahead and had a go at making a book trailer for The End of the World. I used Windows Movie Maker, which was pretty simple to use once I'd played around with it for a bit. And I used music by Kevin MacLeod, as David suggested in his blog post. Anyway, I do hope anyone who's interested will take a look:

I think book trailers are a great idea and I plan on giving it a shot. 'Code of Misconduct' will not be released until mid-summer, so I have a few months to play around with it. But I need to make some video at the beach and that will have to wait. I really, really need to retire so I can devote the time I need to it.

You are most welcome! Do you think it would work for a children's book? I am wondering if there might end up being more info in the trailer than there are words in my book! ha!

Absolutely, MJB! The thought behind a trailer is to suggest, not to tell, so you should feel free to show images or video that give the feel of your book, rather than some step-by-step breakdown of it.

Give it a go - I'm sure you'll come up with something terrific!

I did a mock up of one already :) I found a 54 second music clip that would work, now I need some good pics to insert so I can get it out there. I don't have the book totally completed to my liking or cost yet anyway, so I have time, but I was so excited to do it!  :D I'm going to work on the word clips next. I made a video with movie maker before and I enjoyed it, so this being for my book will be brilliant! I am super stoked! Your video was so rad that it put me in a silly mood and as a result I had a really cheesy status making my friends laugh with me!! This writing circle make me so happy! I am going to post your trailer on my fb! Now it's time for a glass of wine~

That's quick work! Well done! Like you, I really enjoyed playing around with Movie Maker - it really is a lot of fun! Thanks again for the lovely comments on mine, and especially thanks for posting it on your FB page!

Enjoy the wine and have fun making the rest of the trailer!  :D

:) You're welcome and you're welcome! I can't wait to have good pictures to upload, then I will post it for you to see before I present it to anyone, if you would be willing to give me your opinion, I would appreciate it! I do have to have the book on the 'shelves' first before I send it out, but it would be fabulous to have it done and ready to go! I think I love the particular music you chose. It just made it fun and gave it a sense of humor.

so, I am off to greet some newERbies so I can alter my profile ;) Have a great evening!

I'd be flattered to give my opinion on your trailor! And I'm so glad you liked the music in mine. I wanted to try and lighten it up a bit as the subject matter is pretty dark, but the book itself is full of humor - so I'm glad it worked!

I used the royalty-free work of Kevin MacLeod:

He has so much to choose from, so there's something for everyone.

Hope yours is coming along swimmingly!
