Grandma's Household Cleaning tips

We all know that vinegar is a good cleaning agent for wood but does anyone have any good cleaning tips for around the house ?

For example a lemon on the chrome taps in the bathroom is excellent for bringing up that shine!

Getting someone else to do it is a good one... but doesn't seem to work in my house! 

Boiling old bass guitar strings brings them back to life.  Maybe not the kind of tip you were after, but if you knew how much bass guitar strings cost..!

Yeah, I hear you Carrie.    And here we thought we were having kids so that we could get someone else to do the work, eh?  LOL!!!   

Vinegar for cleaning out teapots is one that my great grandmother passed down to my mother who in turn passed it on to my 4 sisters and my wife.  It may wreak like the dickens for a bit but it will clean off those nasty brown stains which, by the way are now lining your stomach. 

Give me a nice hot herbal tea any day!

So - NP - are you subltly advising that WE should all drink vinegar to clean those nasty brown stains out of our stomachs? 

(and - because I'm Mrs Picky - ask anyone who I've reviewed - it's reek, not wreak.)

Completely off the post: I live near Duxford Air Field.  I regularly see Spitfiires B52s, Hurricanes and all sorts flying over.  Saw a catalina last week.

 Put lemon peel in the garbage dispose. Egg shells down it will sharpen them, lemon juice also gets out lipstick stains. Other then those I use store bought products

Having your children do the job is a nice enough idea, really.
It's just such a pity that they'll only cooperat gladely when there's money involved

Hey, actually I've got some GREAT tips!
If your house is a mess and your inlaws call to tell you they're intown and will be paying you a visit in, say, 10 minutes, don't worry...
If you have one or all of the following appliances, use them to put "STUFF" in: dishwasher, oven, washing machine, tumble dryer, the cupboard under the sink...
Vacuuming: Do only where you'll actually look (not under teh table, couch, whatever...)
Bedroom: More storage room under your bed!

Sorry, Lin.  Didn't mean to get off topic there.   

Anyway, I'm not sure if this fits into the category but my grandparents would often tell us that when they ran out of toothpaste while in the shelters during the war, they wouldn't often use baking soda.  They laugh about it now when the dental companies advertise is as though it were something new when they've known about it for more than half a century!  LOL!!!
