Anyway, I'm not sure if this fits into the category but my grandparents would often tell us that when they ran out of toothpaste while in the shelters during the war, they wouldn't often use baking soda.  They laugh about it now when the dental companies advertise is as though it were something new when they've known about it for more than half a century!  LOL!!!

Gosh NP I though I was younger than you!!! >:(

My dad said that during the war (The 2nd - please say you were talking about the 1st? :P) they used to use soot from the fire to clean their teeth!!!

Never made any sense to me but he swore by it.

Okay, my tip:

If, like me, you drink only black coffee then your cups (Or in my case MUGS. ;D) must have dirty brown stains on them? The best way to remove this (if you don't have a dishwasher. *Sniff*) is to put a little salt in them when washing. Works like a charm. ;)

Clean windows with newspaper and vinegar.

Tommy's Top Tip on Onions.....To rid your hands/fingers of onion smell....rub them on
your stainless steel sink or cutlery !!

Ha, knew both those Tam. (Guess mothers constant harping worked. ::))

Here's another one:

After you change your bed - and wash the bedding of course :P - put your duvet, sheets (bottom and top) and pillow cases inside ONE of the pillow cases - that way, when you go to look for them again, they are all together.

Simple, but effective. 8)
