(When I first came across this name as a  kid I thought it was some bizarre feline torturing device, rather like a bigger pair of nutcrackers.  Then I looked it up in my encyclopaedia and found it was a bit of equipment used in oil refineries.  Fascinating stuff, but...

Sometimes, just sometimes, education can be a bit of a let-down.)

(Mum and Dad used to make these from old strips of old material worked into a hessian backing.  I think its what some folks call a peg-rug.)
