Sticky: New Prize Flash Fiction Contest
« on: November 19, 2010, 05:16:15 AM »
MWC is five years old this month, so to celebrate this anniversary, were holding our best-ever PRIZE FLASH FICTION CONTEST!

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, The WCCL Network, we have THREE great writing course prizes to give away. They are as follows...

1st Prize - A copy of The 10-Day E-Book, my latest step-by-step manual on devising, writing and publishing a money-making e-book.
2nd Prize - A copy of Movie in a Month, WCCLs blockbusting guide to creating your very own movie script and - with just a little luck - selling it to Hollywood.
3rd Prize - A copy of Write Any Book in Under 28 Days, my original best-selling course on creating a book in the shortest possible time.

If a prize-winner has the product in question already, or doesnt want it for any reason, WCCL will be happy to substitute another from its writing range to the equivalent value (or less). See this blog post for a complete list of all the WCCL writing courses.

The contest will be judged by MWC's moderator team, with the exception of Country4Gal (Alice), who is forwarding entries to the other mods to ensure anonymity, and therefore excluded from voting on this occasion.

For this challenge we would like you to write a short story in exactly 100 words (no more, no less), including all three of the following words: anniversary, luminous, papaya (these exact words, no derivatives from them). In addition, you should give your story a title of up to 15 words. The words in the title will not count towards the 100 words in the story. Note that words with apostrophes count as one word, as do hyphenated words, e.g. vice-versa and couldn't. Numbers which are written as digits, including decimals, count as one word, e.g. 9.8 or 147.

We will be looking for a complete story with a beginning, middle and an end, which follows all of these rules. It should incorporate the three words above in as natural a way as possible. The three words should not stand out from the rest of the story. Please do not capitalize them or do anything else to draw attention to them, therefore.

Submit your entry by PM (Personal Message) to moderator Country4Gal, who will forward all entries anonymously to the other mods. You can send her a PM by clicking here to go to her profile page and clicking on the link 'Send this member a personal message' near the bottom. Use the subject line Prize Flash Fiction Contest Entry, and avoid including your name or any other identifying information in your entry. You will, of course, need to be a registered member of the forum and logged in to be able to enter. Just one story per member, please, so make it a good one!

The closing date for this challenge is Friday 10 December at 12.00 midday CST (Central Standard Time). So you have plenty of time to write and polish your story before submitting it!

Please do NOT post your story as a reply here. If you do this, it will have to be disqualified as we will not be able to judge it anonymously. On the other hand, if you have any queries, please post them as replies below, and either I or another moderator will do our best to answer them. It is best not to send queries by PM, as there may then be a delay in getting them answered.

I will post the results of the contest here and on my blog as soon as possible once it has been judged.

Good luck!

Nick  :)

Whoah Nelly. ;D

You are in luck regarding prose contests. Two are taking place this month. :o

One, the New Prize Flash Fiction Contest, Nick announced with this sticky. PM Country4Gal (Alice) your stories.

The other is the Flash Fiction Challenge #23 Don kicked off: http://www.mywriterscircle.com/index.php?topic=30457.0

Time is flying but you still have time to get those stories written for both.

Write on,
-Maimi

Nah. I trashed it. I can't fit everything into a complete story of 100 words.
