I can't write with a pen and paper!
« on: June 30, 2006, 03:15:09 PM »
I find that ever since using a computer, I cannot do any writing with the traditional pen and paper.  It's very frustrating because I don't get to use the computer as often as I would like in order to get some writing done!
The computer is my best friend when it comes to writing. I've forgotten how to write legibly as it is!

My husband and I share the computer but it may as well be his because he does all of his business with the computer and internet.
So I am left bored watching mind-numbing TV and only dreaming I could just pick up a pen and paper and be happy with it!

Hi Lorraine

Why not get yourself a laptop computer. You can get a measure of independence and quite powerful computers at reasonable prices.

Good luck

Been using a computer for long time - I started using 'em as soon as it was possible to instead of pen and paper.

That way I and others can read what I have written.

I tend to critique in a harsh manner. Please remember it is not personal, but how I prefer anyone critiqueing me to be. It is far more useful IMO.

I might suggest a PDA with a folding keyboard.  You can compose anywhere--even handier than the laptop, batteries last much longer, you'll pick it up for cheaper than a laptop, then when the husband isn't on your machine, just pop your files to the desk top.

But please be careful of the "If only I (insert limiting factor) I could write!"  That limiting factor can re-assert itself in just about any guise if you're not careful!

Write, baby!  Write!

Aw! Maddie, you sound so sad. :'(

You say you don't have a boyfriend and you don't read but you love to write? What kind of things do you like to write?

Are you a poet?
Childrens writer?
Fiction?
Non-fiction?

Tell us a little bit more about yourself (Although maybe we should move off this thread? Why don't you join in at the coffee shop - lots of coffee and plenty of sticky buns. ;))

Hi maddie,

Who says you have to write legibly? You're not taking exams or anything. I used to stop using the computer a month before exams and force myself to write with pen and paper again - at length. It's just habit.

I write my stuff on computer - but all my ideas are on paper. I have a notebook with me constantly and any ideas go in there. I'll often sit in a cafe or on the beach and all the brainstorming is with pen and paper. When I write poetry, it's always with pen and paper - I just cannot write poetry on a computer.

Keep a notebook with you always - and don't tell yourself you can't write with pen and paper. Sounds like too much of a really great excuse!!!!!!  ;D  If you really want to, you will. Deny yourself use of a computer for a month and see how you get on - bet you'll be amazed how much you really get written.

Good luck,
Symphony
