Don't you just love it when you're on a role
« on: March 06, 2010, 09:21:36 AM »
I have been writing the current novel I am working on since Janurary the 11th and since then I have managed to write 41,000 words. which is a tad under half way through. However in the past two days alone I have managed to write 10,000 of those words and were I not off out today I reckon another 5-6000 would be easily achieved.

I wish I had that sort of pace every day!

Anyone else experience flurries of writing that make your weeks and months of hard work look like you have been dragging your feet?

A.J.B., I'm happy to report that I have had periods like that and it feels as if I'm riding a fast moving cloud, zooming across borders, mountains, lakes and oceans while it last.

It's a fabulous feeling while it last and I always look forward to it's return.

I am just hoping I have no need for a return...however I can't see me writing this fluently for much longer  :'( No doubt I will be back to 1000 usable words a day pretty soon.

Having just completed a novel in three months I can certainly relate to your post.  I have been working up to 7 hours per day and got fatter with sitting down all day! Now I've completed the second draft things are moving on and I hope to complete the whole novel before the summer.  I really do wish you well, its a hard slog and very motivating when you just can't stop writing and you get so involved in your story its an amazing experience.  Fast tracking in writing has to be one of the best ways to write a novel in a short time. Continuity seems to flow out of my brain more easily.   Unfotunately not many people have the time to do this and I feel very lucky this has happened to me.

I now find it isnt healthy to do this.  I have put on weight and haven't been getting proper exercise  So now I am taking a break from writing for about three weeks and doing some nordic walking and swimming.

I also bought a Wii fitness programme today, I hope to start using that and doing some cycling now the weather has improved.

So stay healthy if you write full time.  It's bad for your health.

I only write for a few hours a day but if I keep that pace up then I would probabaly be getting as much done as if I were writing full time. Then again I am not overly sure how many words a full time writer writes in one day. I could be way off. As I said above, I am averaging around 5k ish.

Sorry A.J.B, not AB.  :-[

Don't worry about it. You were right both times, the J is my middle initial so AB still isn't wrong :D

Another thing is if you're fast tracking don't neglect your family.  Writing can become an obsession and I am absolutely hooked on it.  Fortunately my hubby is a way a lot so that's why I get time, but as soon as he comes home I stop writing. I could keep going all day.

I am with you all the way AJB, keep up the good work, well done that's a lot of words.

I am somewhat of a recluse anyway. If I were to suddenly start spending more time with my family (I do spend time with them, I make myself out to be a hermit...haha) then they may think I am sick :P

Sure, I once wrote 45,000 in a month. I ended up with two decent novellas.
I haven't had that kind of pace for too long.
