But... you had a great education to build on. When you go into writing that way,
you have so much less to learn because you've already learned a lot of it with
essays, reports, etc. If you learn writing from a non-fiction POV (point of view),
the basics that are left is characterization and Show, Don't Tell.> What did
you sell? Short stories?

What did you sell? Short stories?

One flash fiction and two short stories. And one filler for Reader's Digest.  :D

How many mods are there?
Are all of you judging the entries?
When will the winner be announced?

You can identify the Mods by the Blue Stars, there are seven of us, plus Nick and Karl, which would make nine (if I'm counting right), spread all around the globe. And yes, we will all be judging the entries.

The winner will be announced this coming Wednesday.

How many entries did you have - or should I not ask that question?
What are the requirements to become a mod and what are the duties?

I'm not sure about the number of entries at present. Mostly because I haven't read all of them yet. Planning to do that tomorrow since I'll have the day off.

The duties of a Mod is for us to try our best to make sure things run smooth around here. That might involve a number of different things, we just have to keep our eyes open.

Mods come in all shapes, sizes, and locations. But we were all members here for some time before we became mods.

You know, when I sent the survey letter, your name rang a bell, but I
didn't answer it until a short time later and then I knew I had met you
here. Thank you for signing up.

You're a man of few words and quick to the point. That should keep you from being wordy.  :)

Please feel free to call on me if you have writing questions. I'll be happy to help.

Hello Deborah. Iím Hugh, the awkward old fart from England Ė at least, thatís how Iím pretty sure some members see me. Others are kinder, and actually say nice things about some of my posts.

I canít help wondering why you have joined MWC. So far, youíve been effusively complimentary to the mods, but have said nothing about your own writing aspirations, what sort of help you are looking for, and so on.

I get the impression that you are here to advertise your online writing courses at $200 a time. If Iím wrong, do please say so, and Iíll re-think my first impression.

This is a writersí circle in which we freely do are best to help are fellow writers, whether beginners or more experienced, in any way we can, according to our particular interests. To burst onto the scene with nothing but an emoticon does not give me much confidence in your motives, Iím afraid.

If you can prove me wrong, Iíll be happy to retract my reservations.

Hugh

Hi Hugh!

It's nice to meet you, and I will be as candid as you have been.

I came here because I thought it was a group of professional writers that I could network with. Not finding it to be so, I offered my services in good faith (just as I do on Writing.com). You may have noticed that I have yet to advertise my site, except in my sig, nor have I mentioned it to anyone other than to invite them to sign up for The Writer's Choice Newsletter, which offers valuable writer's tips. In addition, I freely send articles to those who desire them and I counsel with them free of charge.

While it is uncommon, I grant you, a few honest professionals still roam the world, not looking for opportunities to bop innocent amateurs.

Now that both of us have our first impressions out of the way, can we be friends?

Deb
