in the newspaper edition many other writers aired their opinions, well worth reading but only of course IMHO  ;D

I'm quite a fan of Mr Leonard's and I've seen his 'writing rules' before. (See the quote in my signature line below that I've kept the same for a year or so.)

I'd love to know what the other writers' contributions were in the 'offline' edition of the paper but, sadly, they only seem to sell tabloids and Tory papers in my part of Greece.  >:(

Vienna, thanks for the link. Elmore Leonard was one of my childhood heroes.

That would be great, vienna, although Mrs Xerika is in the UK at the moment and I've asked her to try and track down a copy. If she fails, I'll be back on your case. Thank you.  :)

I have the best time in writing workshops trying to convince beginner writers to follow rule 3
'Never use a verb other than "said" to carry dialogue.'
So many writers do and because a published writer does then they conclude it's OK for them to.  ::)
I much prefer not even writing 'said' but using an action tag.

Thanks, vienna, that's very good of you. However, some friends in the UK have the article and will bring it with them when they come over in a couple of weeks.
