Online travel writing for cash
« on: June 23, 2009, 08:18:07 PM »
I've just spotted this site and haven't had a chance to check it out thoroughly.

At a glance though, it seems like it might be a good opportunity to make a bit of cash from writing short (?) travel articles.

Here's a quote from the site itself, but I'll let you investigate for yourselves:

"We want Simonseeks - which is backed by Simon Nixon, one of Europe's most successful internet entrepreneurs - to benefit everyone. We want users to find inspiration and high quality advice, and we want our writers to be able to benefit from the financial rewards which accrue from advertising and commission which can be generated by the site. So we have undertaken to distribute to our contributors half of the net revenue which result from a user responding to a recommendation in a guide, or clicking on an advertisement or link."

Here's the link to SimonSeeks: - writing, podcasting and reluctant olive farming

I also read the small print and here is what it says

In any event, we will only make a payment to you once the amount falling due to you exceeds Five Pounds Sterling (5) in aggregate

Does this mean you only get paid GBP1 for every article published and once the amount exceeds GBP5 you get paid.  You would have to write an awful lot of articles to make a decent amount of pocket money.

Not for me, Im afraid.  - I can earn a lot more than that with a magazine article.
