Let me see if I understand you.  You pay for a security solution because it can't find the problems so it doesn't bother you? ???

No, no Tim. It doesn't give me any problems, such as making the computer run really slow, or making it crash... it always finds and destroys the little virsuses I have. Oh, and I don't pay.  ;D It's all free!
And yes, I haven't been in the bar for a while. I'm missing my white wine.  ;) So, I'll leave it up to you for that drink, Tim.

If McAfee has no uninstall button, try the add/remove programs function in Windows.  If you tried that and McAfee refused to allow you to delete it, I would be doubly suspicious.  Any program that refuses to allow you to delete it (like AOL) is a program you really want to get rid of completely and forthwith, or near to it.  Notice that Patti says two things about McAfee -- she was able to delete it finally and that "was a feat in itself."  So it is difficult, but can be done.

Oh, don't worry Eric. I didn't really mean that it refused to leave. I can easily uninstall it. I actually uninstalled it yesterday and tried Panda, but I didn't have time to fully see whether it would be good for my system. So I just reinstalled McAfee and thought I would wait till my membership runs out. It is a very safe program. Like I said, I have had no problems or trouble with it. It takes care of my system pretty well. But because I don't pay for this, when the membership runs out I will have to pay. But, I don't want to pay just for a little system to get rid of a few viruses. Because I hardly get any virsuses anyway. Thank you for the advice anyway, Eric. :)

After watching that video Tim, I am seriously considering getting Panda.
And I'm sure Tim likes you better than me, Patti. He's known you longer. He only likes me because I used to buy him drinks.  :D

I'll be able to talk my way out of this for I have, in fact, kissed the Blarney Stone. Nearly stood on my head to do it, but SMACK right there in the castle wall.

Hello, my name is Sean-Paul and I am a Threat Researcher and Security Evangelist at Panda Security.  I stumbled across this thread and was excited to see you all talking about Cloud AV.  The cloud technology (Collective Intelligence or CI for short) behind Cloud AV has been in development since 2006, so it's great to finally release a free version of the technology to the community.

If any of you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  We tend to be very open at Panda and we encourage any feedback you have!  You can find us on the Cloud Antivirus Blog at http://blog.cloudantivirus.com, Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Panda-Cloud-Antivirus/81197716617?ref=mf, or even on Twitter at http://twitter.com/Panda_Security, and http://twitter.com/CloudAntivirus.

Hi Sean-Paul.  Thanks for taking the time to stop by (although I don't think you can call it stumbling since I sent you the link. ;D

As an IT professional, I just love the simplicity of Cloud AV.  I think it should come with all new computers instead of the "trial" crap they put on there.  Often people will let that lapse and not realize they aren't getting updates anymore.  I've seen computers that haven't had an AV update in *years*, but they thought they were safe because of the icon in their system tray.  And we have users that will cancel the daily AV scan because it slows down their machine too much.  This really solves both those problems.  And it's surprisingly fast (well, not a full scan, but the on-the-fly scanning).  Truly a "Set it and forget it" application.

I bet those criminals that put out viruses are having nightmares over this.  Keep up the great work!

Okay, Sean-Paul, it's after work now.  Mind if I ask how you become a "Security Evangelist"?  I like the sound of that.  Mind if I use it? ;D

Can I get you a drink from the Bar?  That's where most of the stories are told.  I think there are three "unsalvageable" computers that have new lives.

Well Tim, I have been ordered to relay my Panda story here.

My Other Half had AVG on his comp and I suggested he tried Panda. He ran AVG and it found nothing so he uninstalled it and installed Panda. It found close to 300 worms etc and I think he said 3 virus things on there. He was impressed so when my sub for NOD runs out, I will install it as well I think.  ;D ;D

She's going to "think about it" even though she just watched Panda Cloud AV save her "other half".

It's people like her that make me glad her "paid" license is running out...  ;D ;D ;D

I mentioned earlier that my list of 'sites which I knew I hadn't deliberately visited had shrunk since installing Panda.  Today I did the 'manage cookies' bit and there was absolutely nothing spurious on there.

About a dozen 'virus neutralised' notifications though, so someone or something was trying to get in today.  But it didn't ;-)

I'm supposed to rewrite what I wrote to start this?

my vista run computer was supposedly clean, but there were under 20 threats neutralized.
my XP computer was a mess. Panda found hundreds of items to clear out.

my xp computer was running smoothly and may even be worth giving to my son, now. it wasn't before.

Sean-Paul, as a moderator over here at MWC, please allow me to take a moment to welcome you to our forum.

If you would like to be formally welcomed with my canned speech and all, please feel free to leave a message on the welcome board. My canned speech is absolutely brilliant. Okay, it has a certain glow. Well, really, it's just a canned speech. But welcome, anyway.

I didn't think to look there... I thought it was a story you told in the bar.  How'd it turn out?  Is the son getting a laptop?

His hasn't been repossessed yet.     Le sigh.

Mine is so he doesn't have to kill himself over a stupid computer if they decided to take his away from him when he files for bankruptcy. So I don't know quite yet what is happening to it.

If all is well with him, the grandkids can have it.

Spcorrell, nice of you to stop by. Tim has always been great at helping members with computer problems around here, so when he recommend something like Panda, we know it has to be good.

I clicked on your link for the Cloud Antivirus Blog, because I have a question. Unfortunately, I received this message "Error establishing a database connection."

You might want to fix that.

Alice, it works for me.  Perhaps if you had an up-to-date version of Windows...

Sean-Paul, I know Cloud AV is only supposed to run on XP or better, but have you tried it on Win2K?  I know people that are still running Win98 and will want this. ;D
