not a very good one. I figure that made up words should be ones that fit into a fantasy world or can fit into English without anyone batting an eye at it. *lol*

Verbicide?

I happened upon this thread while doing a bit of research on the subject of made up words in writing.

Neologism: (from Greek neo = "new" + logos = "word") is a word that, although devised relatively recently in a specific time period, has been accepted into a mainstream language. By definition, neologisms are "new", and as such are often directly attributable to a specific individual, publication, period, or event. The term "neologism" was coined in 1803. (dictionary.com)

Verbification, or verbing, is a term used to describe the act of changing a noun into a verb primarily by adding an "ing."

Nouning is a term used to describe the act of turning a noun into a verb with an ending such as "ize."

Either way, the practice is called "verbicide" by many die-hard English purists.  I hardly think it's necessary to define that one!

It's true that many authors have created words in order to add some flavor to their stories.  That's all well and good, but I agree that fabricated words should stay in the realm of fantasy unless it elevates an existing word to another level rather than the result just sounding plain ridiculous.

If it's purely for fun, as has been the case here, then it's all good.
