is there a plural?

I needed lately to write bombings in plural. However I was adviced that the plural of bombing is still bombing? Who's right?

The plural of bombing is bombings. You wouldn't say, "There were bombing every weekend for three months," for example.

On the other hand, you COULD write, "There was bombing every weekend for three months." In this case, of course, bombing is a present participle rather than a noun. Maybe this is what the person who criticised your writing meant?
