Hi Steve

Thanks for adding the two stories I sent you earlier in the year to the Hardline pages.

Does it remain your plan to progress Hardline Fiction as a Web Magazine with periodic new issues at regular intervals? Which case are you looking for submissions?

Does Hardline have any publicity outside My Writers?

I realise you are very busy.

Regards, Chip

Yes, thanks for getting it out there Steve, have you had any feedback on the content?

So issue 2 is out? What is the direct link for issue 2? I followed the ones you provided and they seem to be for issue 1 (March 2008).

I have read Child's Play and Towards Happiness and both have left a lasting impression on me - thanks, I enjoyed them very much.

Linda,

Child's Play has warped quite a few minds over the years since it first appeared in 1989 ;-)  My Daughter had heard about it  as 'The story that paid for a year's worth of school uniform, including shoes', but she never read it herself until quite recently.  After she finished she was quiet for a while and then asked, "Did you base it on me?"

I assured her it wasn't.  "Uhm...." she said, musingly.  "I probably would have thought like that at that age."

Looking back she was a coldly logical child before becoming a lot more 'human' as she grew older.

I've always assumed the fiction editor of Bella had just finished reading half a dozen 'twee and conventional stories and fell on Child's Play with a shout of relief as 'something different'.

The chance to give it  a second chance was too good to miss.

Child's Play is fantastic - but then, no surprise there, really!  ;)

Why, thankyou kindly.  It was one of those stories which a) almost wrote itself, and  b) set the 'tingly bits' going as I realised where it was heading.  Sometimes we can analyse - indeed over-analyse -  the how and why of a story, pointing to the bits which make it work.  Other times the tale just grabs the writer and drags them along as fast as their fingers can go.  Child's Play was a 'grabber'.

I can - and sometimes do - write utter rubbish too, but I usually shoot it before it manages to escape into the public domain.

Was a decision made on 16th July?
Should we assume Hardline/Hardline Fiction has ceased to be, it is no more.

Hello all  :)

Unfortunately, Hardline is on hold for the time being, because of publishing commitments regarding its staff; some have book deals in place, others have been working on an anthology due for publication shortly. However, there's another avenue for your stories:

Short Story Library is an new and growing online magazine which accepts fiction & nonfiction contributions. I suggest you submit your stories there, as it's very similar to Hardline, but is updated far more regularly. The editor, Casey Quinn, is a very helpful and friendly person & is actively looking for submissions - many former Hardline contributors have had stories published by SSL. You can check out SSL's website in the link below. Having submitted work there myself, I can honestly recommend it. Best of luck, all, and I'm very sorry about Hardline's lack of activity, but this is unavoidable at present.

Steve
