Advice on exams
« on: April 03, 2008, 07:35:45 AM »
Hi, I know this isn't exactly a good poem, but I enjoyed writing it because I was thinking of my Dad in his brummie (Birmingham) accent
advising me as a child, how to cope with exams - and this is the result of those thoughts!:

The voice in me 'ead
It's yours and it sez:
It's jus' common sense, litt'l miss
be clever an' it'll be a piece of p*$$

It's a bostin' way of gettin' it dun
An' in the end, you'll ace it, no probs!
When I was a kid, I was in a grammar
an' it was tuff back den -
teachers cud bash ya over' 'ead wiv an' 'ammer!

okay, upon further thought, how is this to continue....

So I grabbed me pen
an' quietly began -
finkin' those words my dad 'ad expressed
"Piece o' p*$$..common sense
repeat in yer 'ead, be clever, ya' pleb"

Heartwarming as they were
The words whirled around
The persona they took
placed me dad right there - in the exam!

An' 'ammer in 'and,
he quietly came
A thud on the desk
My sleep at an end

Above me, my eyes caught glimpse of a man
My teacher, now frownin -
he reminded me of my dad
"Be clever, ya pleb"
An' wiv dat I began...

stanza 3 is weak, but for some strange reason i like the warmth and homey-ness of it all.

Thank you, John :)
I always tend to have at least one weak stanza :) It is my trademark :)
