I've been reading loads on my shiny new Kindle I got for Christmas (hence my not being round these parts very much- apologies, I will try harder).
Highlights have been 'The Hardest (Working) Man In Showbiz', which is the porn star Ron Jeremy's autobiography. Whilst, admittedly, not a highbrow selection, it was a very funny and, in parts, interesting read. And, let's face it, I'd have never have gotten round to reading it unless it was afforded Kindle-like anonymity. Hardly a title I'd like to be spotted in the dentist's waiting room with....
Also, 'Hogarth's Frolic- The Five Day's Peregrination'. In the early 1700's the artist William Hogarth and several of his cohorts were in a London pub and at midnight decided to go on a bit of a jaunt. Basically they went on a five day bender that took them to Rochester, Chatham, the Isle of Sheppey and then Gravesend before returning to the capital. And they created a written and pictorial account which I found very interesting, being a lover of both Hogarth's work and the Isle of Sheppey.
I also finally read Salinger's 'The Catcher In The Rye' and I was really, really disappointed. I'm guessing that at the time it was written it was groundbreaking, but I just felt my eyelashes curling with every turned page. Bit gutted, to tell you the truth, as for some reason it was one of those books I really wanted to like.
And now I am about to settle down and start David Brin's 'The Postman.' Fortunately I have never seen the film so I have no preconceptions. Looking forward to it.
I love my new Kindle- can't believe it's taken me so long in getting round to obtaining one.
