Finished Frederick Forsyth’s The Cobra, a gripping action thriller about a scheme to cripple the Colombian drug barons’ worldwide supply of heroin. Even my wife, who usually likes family sagas, is enthralled by it.
Struggled to finish Hard Girls, by Martina Cole. To me it’s full of repetitions and clichés. She doesn’t just fall for him; she falls hook, line and sinker. He doesn’t just hit the ground; he does it like a sack of potatoes.
I saw the ending coming before I was halfway through, and the red herrings she planted were so overdone, they stood out like a sore thumb — see, she’s got me at it now …
Currently reading The Long Glasgow Kiss, by Craig Russell. As soon as I picked it off the shelf and read the first line I knew I’d enjoy it, and I’m not disappointed. Set in Glasgow in the 1950’s, it’s a tough, gritty, yet humorous first person story of a private investigator who came over with the Canadian army during WWII and somehow never got round to going back. An easy read.
