The Twelve Chairs was based on a play written by 2 Soviet journalists. It's one of my favourite comedies of all time because it rather subversively mocks the flaws in the Soviet system, but has all the traits that I love about Russian literature. I've always loved the Russian definition of a happy ending: getting what you need (not what you want), sometimes in spite of your best efforts to avoid it.
