"  don't be like so many writers,
don't be like so many thousands of
people who call themselves writers,
don't be dull and boring and
pretentious, don't be consumed with self-love.
the libraries of the world have
yawned themselves to sleep
over your kind.
don't add to that.
don't do it.
unless it comes out of
your soul like a rocket,
unless being still would
drive you to madness or
suicide or murder,
don't do it. "

A short quote from the poem  " so you want to be a writer ? " by  Charles Bukowski, 1920 - 1994
"Do you not know, my son, with how little wisdom the world is governed?",

Not sure I agree.  Novelists do create characters.  The characters create their own relationships.  (Or is that just mine?)

My characters have very basic relationships (eg mother and daughter) but after the first couple of chapters the characters write their own story, I just type it out for them!
There is no beginning or end. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present (unknown)

Conscientious objectors
War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.

"Most people, and particularly kids, don't realize that they are in control of their lives and they're the ones that are going to make the decisions and they're the ones that are going to actually make it one way or the other.

Usually adolescence is a time when kids feel that the world is doing it to them, whether it's their parents doing it to them or their teachers doing it to them or their friends doing it to them, and that they are the victim of all this.

Somewhere in here, you have to learn that you're not the victim, but instead you're the one that's doing it. That moment is sometimes a long slow realization or sometimes turning on a light switch. All of a sudden you realize that you are the person who controls your life."

Yes my dear, and not to forget:

“People pay for what they do, and still more for what they have allowed themselves to become. And they pay for it very simply; by the lives they lead.”
James Baldwin. This quote is following me everywhere I go, on the first page of a small yellow notebook.

Beware of the stories you read or tell; subtly, at night, beneath the waters of consciousness, they are altering your world.
